BO KNOWS!!!

So first off big thanks to me ma and pa for sending me my original Nintendo NES! Just got it in the mail and been playing classics like Teenage Mutnat Ninja Turtles, Duke Hunt and Tecmo Bowl all day. Now NES games are hard to find these days so if you have a copy of, "Tecmo Superbowl", that your not using, I'd be happy to give you a Pizza Hut gift certificate and a quarter to but some M&M's with when you pop by the station to drop of the game. So gimme a call during the show, weekday mornings 6-10, at 787-2222 and lets make a deal.

Now this is the reason this game is so epic... just ask Bo... He Knows.

Janice says this donation has particular significance because it deals with an area of service that would otherwise go unattended…

Janice says the brail books are already being used and adds, the Forester’s on-going support, for the library, also includes hands-on assistance, during the annual book sale.

Janice joins us on the show every Friday morning and this week she told us about another recourse the library provides to people with visual disabilities, Victor readers (see above right)

Kurt Cobain would have turned 40 today

The reluctant leader of generation x was born on this day in 1967. Nirvana front man Kurt Cobain never reached his 40th birthday, he passed away at the age of 27 of an apparent suicide on April 5th 1994. Many people have accused Kurts widow Courtney love of murdering Kurt… now what Courtney had to do with Kurts death we will probably never know… but her pre-recorded speech played at his public memorial, that was held in Seattle on April 10th 1994, is a chilling moment in music history.

DO MORE WITH YOUR LIBRARY CARD... LIKE FIX YOUR CAR

When your ride breaks down the last thing you think to pull out is your library card... but it might be a good idea. The Fort St John Library has an online auto repair database that can show you everything from installing block heaters to fixing your drive train. It can even tell you if the shop is ripping you off. Janice From the library stopped by the studio this morning to tell us all about how you can use your library card to access this database.

SILKEN LAUMANN ON THE MOOSE

Four-time Olympian Silken Laumann is one of Canada's most inspirational leaders. As the reigning world champion rower she fought back from a devastating training accident, and medical predictions of never being able to row again, to win a bronze medal in the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona. Silken retired in March 1999 having won three Olympic medals and four World Championships.

Silken will speak at the opening ceremonies of the Northern BC Winter Games tomorrow night at the North Peace Arena here in Fort St John and the Olympian joined us on the phone this morning from her home on Vancouver Island.

Silken is a passionate advocate of getting kids active and this morning we chatted about her charity work, her first Olympics, these upcoming Northen BC Winter Games and 4 square... Like you never played it!

THE BEST GUITARIST YOU'VE NEVER HEARD

For a career that was cut short by illness and a premature death, guitarist, singer, and songwriter Rory Gallagher sure accomplished a lot in the blues music world. The Irish blues rocker from Ballyshannon was one of the best live blues guitarist in the world. His live show was manic and he partied like he played ...hard... very very hard. This past Sunday, on Moose FM's Uptown Roots, myself and Uptown Co-host Morris Holmes played a couple live tracks from the 6 string master, including a great version of Bullfrog Blues.

Here's Rory rocking the bullfrog...

Gallagher passed away from complications following liver transplant surgery on June 14, 1995, at age 47. For a good introduction to his unparalleled prowess as a guitarist, singer, and songwriter, pick up Irish Tour 1974, Calling Card, or Fresh Evidence.

For more of the best jazz and blues from around the world check out, "Uptown Roots", sunday nights from 7-9 only on Moose FM.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHRISTOPHER GUEST!

OUR KNOBS GO TO 11!!

The man behind Spinal Tap Christopher Guest celebrates his 59th birthday today. We've got a great Spinal Tap clip for ya but here's the mans bio.

Guest is well known for his portrayal of Nigel Tufnel in the mockumentary film This Is Spinal Tap, and his stint as a cast member on NBC's Saturday Night Live (1984-1985). Guest made his first appearance as Tufnel on the 1980 album Lenny and the Squigtones by "Lenny and Squiggy"' (comedians Michael McKean and David Lander) and appears as Tufnel most recently in a television ad for Volkswagen. He also appeared as Count Rugen in The Princess Bride, Charlie Ford in The Long Riders, Lord Cromer in Mrs. Henderson Presents and Dr. Stone in A Few Good Men. He had a cameo role as Dylan, a smarmy pedestrian, in the 1986 remake of The Little Shop of Horrors.

Recurring characters on SNL played by Guest include: Frankie, of Willie and Frankie (two co-workers who recount in detail physically painful situations in which they've found themselves); Herb Minkman, a shady novelty toymaker with a brother named Al (played by Billy Crystal); Rajeev Vindaloo, an eccentric foreign man in the same vein as Andy Kaufman's Latka character from Taxi; and Senor Cosa, a Spanish ventriloquist often seen on the recurring spoof of The Joe Franklin Show.

During his career he has written, acted in, and directed several heavily improvised films, frequently mockumentaries:

* The Big Picture (1989)
* Waiting for Guffman (1996) - as Corky St. Clair
* Best in Show (2000) - as Harlan Pepper
* A Mighty Wind (2003) - as Alan Barrows
* For Your Consideration (2006)

He also directed the 1998 comedy Almost Heroes; it is generally not considered his finest film.

Guest contributed to the National Lampoon Radio Hour in the early 1970s as well as various National Lampoon LPs. He both performed comic characters (Flash Bazbo-Space Explorer, Mr. Rogers, music critic Roger de Swans, and sleazy record company rep Ron Fields) and also wrote, arranged and performed numerous musical parodies.

In a 2005 poll to find The Comedian's Comedian, he was voted amongst the top 50 comedy acts ever by fellow comedians and comedy insiders.

An amazing career... check out this classic Spinal Tap clip... don't all our knobs go to 11!

The latest Christopher Guest film, "For Your Consideration", will be here in Fort St John at the theater on April 16th 2007. A presentation of the FSJ Film Society. For more info on the FSJ Film Society click here.

THE DAY THE MUSIC DIED

On February 2nd 1959 Buddy Holly, Richie Valens and The Big Bopper give their final performance at a show in Clear Lake, Iowa. All three are killed in a plane crash the next day… that was the day the music died…

Check out this classic live performance from the legendary Buddy Holly.

Don McLean was a paperboy when buddy Holly died. He learned about the plane crash when he cut into his stack of papers and saw the lead story… he wrote this song about, "The Day The Music Died" February 3, 1959, when Holly, Ritchie Valens, and The Big Bopper were killed in a plane crash. This song also represents the shift from the 50’s innocence, to the darker, more volatile times of the '60s - both musically and politically.

Don McLean's American pie is a true classic... check out the video below.

THE GAMES ARE A WEEK AWAY, BUT NOT EVERYONE'S GONNA PLAY

The Northern BC winter games get underway in a week here in FSJ. The organizers have been working endlessly for months now to make sure there are enough billet families to house all the athletes traveling to participate in the games... But one Prince George girls ringette team will not be competing because parents of the girls will not allow their kids to stay with quote "strangers". It is the policy of the games that all competitors must be billeted. But this ringette team has refused and they have been barred from participating in the games. With this controversy coming as the opening ceremonies approach, we decided to open up the phone lines this morning, to see what the residents of Fort St John had to say.
